The New Mexico Department of Transportation Modal Division administers federal and state funding for Aviation, Transit and Rail, Freight traffic through the ports of entry, and manages safety programs for all road users designed to reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries through the Traffic Safety Division.

The NMDOT Transit and Rail Division provides financial and planning assistance, oversight, and guidance to transit providers, and oversees the NMDOT’s railroad activities. The Division manages the NMDOT Park and Ride intercity bus service, and assists local governments to establish Regional Transit Districts (RTDs) and plan, coordinate and implement service. It also manages the state-wide Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Safety Improvement Program (FHWA Section 130 Program), manages NM Rail Runner Express passenger rail service in partnership with the Rio Metro Regional Transit District, manages access to the NMDOT-owned railroad property by third parties, coordinates design review and highway activities with railroads on highway projects that impact railroads, and conducts statewide rail planning.LEARN MORE
